In order to test phonemic rather than whole-word knowledge, assessments 1-78 use alien words that students will not have seen before. Explain to the student before you start, that the words have been taken from an alien's shopping list.
Once the assessment is started children must tap the screen or click the mouse to move on to the next sound or word.
Parents: The assessments can also be used as a quick assessment tool (without recording the results) to find out which lessons to start your child at. Simply start at the first assessment and keep going until your child gets an incorrect answer.

Graphs are a great way to see your students' results. The above chart is included on the 'Graph Example' sheet and you can easily create your own by selecting the data and going to > Insert > Chart
Children who need additional practise should receive daily keep-up support. Keep-up lessons should mirror the structure of class teaching but in smaller steps and with more repetition so that every child secures their learning. Routines and resources used in the keep-up lessons should match the whole class core phonics sessions. Consistency of approach is vital when supporting vulnerable pupils and those at risk of falling behind.
Keep-up lessons should be sharply focused on key learning identified through ongoing assessment. Lessons should be taught daily in addition to the whole class session and last around 5 minutes.
